Occasionally, there comes a singer so gifted that it is undeniable that they have been ordained by God to carry His message in song. Maella G. Spires is one such singer.
Maella has been singing since she was five years old. Now eighteen, her voice represents seven patrilineal generations of singing and preaching in the gospel tradition of her family dating back to the days of North Carolina slavery. Many observers are stunned that although she has received no formal training, she easily and regularly demonstrates her ability to sing across six octaves.
She has performed in countless venues both nationally and internationally including the United States Senate, and the United States House of Representatives. She continues to minister at nursing homes, conferences, events and churches as a featured soloist and when accompanying her father on ministerial engagements.
Her vocal stylings are unmasked by excessive instrumentation and technology. Audiences often compare her voice to some of gospel's great singers like Mahalia Jackson, Sarah Jordan Powell, and Aretha Franklin. Her soon to be released cd A Step Back In Time echoes the sentiments of her listeners as she gives her interpretation of some of gospel music's classic hymns.
Thank you for taking the time to allow Maella to touch your life with her song. God Bless You!
